Getting Started with PocketCode: Your Mobile IDE with AI
Discover how PocketCode revolutionizes mobile development with integrated artificial intelligence and all its main features.
Welcome to PocketCode
PocketCode is a professional Android IDE that brings software development to your pocket. With AI integration, syntax highlighting for 39 programming languages, and connections to the development platforms you use.
Why PocketCode?
In an increasingly mobile world, developers need tools that adapt to their lifestyle. PocketCode allows you to:
- Code anywhere: No need for a heavy laptop
- Leverage AI: Intelligent assistant that understands your code
- Connect with your favorite tools: GitHub, Vercel, Supabase and more
- Run code on your device: you need a connection to sign in; opening the app with a session already started works offline, and after that your code runs on the device
Main Features
🤖 Integrated AI Assistant
Connect your own AI account under a BYOK model (an API key for Google Gemini, OpenAI or Anthropic Claude) or sign in with your ChatGPT account (via the bundled Codex CLI, on 64-bit ARM phones) or with GitHub (Copilot). PocketCode is not an AI provider — usage is billed by the provider — and you can use the assistant to:
- Generate code automatically: Describe what you need and let AI write it
- Debug errors: Find and fix bugs faster
- Explain complex code: Understand code you didn't write
- Suggest improvements: Optimize your code with smart recommendations
# Example: Ask AI "write a function that checks if a number is prime"
def is_prime(n):
if n < 2:
return False
for i in range(2, int(n ** 0.5) + 1):
if n % i == 0:
return False
return True
print([n for n in range(20) if is_prime(n)])
💻 Multi-Language Support
Write code in 39 languages with syntax highlighting, 19 of them with a one-tap language server for completions and diagnostics, and run it from the app. In all, 16 languages and file types run on the phone:
- Built into the app: JavaScript and TypeScript (Node.js; TypeScript is not type-checked), Python, Ruby, PHP, C, Java (a limited interpreter), Kotlin, Shell and SQL
- Optional packs you can download: Lua, Go (an interpreter, standard library only) and Rust-style scripts (Rhai)
- No runner works yet: C++, C#, Perl, Zig, Dart and Swift
- HTML, JSON and Markdown open in a preview
🔄 Git Integration
Git is built into the app: there is nothing to install and no
git command to type. Clone from GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket, stage by hunk,
commit, push and pull, work with branches, stash, blame and rebase, and read your
GitHub pull requests, issues and CI. The local terminal is a BusyBox shell and has
no git binary. Everything local works offline; clone, push and pull need a
connection.
No more waiting to get home to make that urgent commit.
☁️ Deploys and Backends
Backend Manager follows what you have deployed across 33 services, with your own tokens: deployments, logs, domains and errors on Vercel, Netlify, Render, Railway, Cloudflare Pages and DigitalOcean, among others. Reading is free, and you can redeploy one deployment at a time on Free; rolling back, live logs and changing things are Pro.
Getting Started

- Connect your AI account (BYOK with an API key from Gemini, OpenAI or Anthropic, or sign in with ChatGPT or GitHub Copilot — optional)
- Create or open a project (the Free plan includes one project; Pro lifts that limit and comes with a 7-day free trial)
- Start coding!
Next Steps
In the following tutorials you'll learn how to:
